Our History
NEMS was founded in Stavanger, Norway, in 1986 under the name Novatech AS. The company was established to develop environmental methodologies, software and advisory services for the oil and gas industry.
During the 1990s, we contributed to the development of environmental quantification and reporting practices for the Norwegian petroleum sector. This work established the foundation for the environmental accounting, chemical management and reporting solutions that later became the NEMS Environmental Management Suite.
In 2018, NEMS became part of Vela Software Group, an operating group of Constellation Software Inc.
In 2026, NEMS was transferred from Carina Software to Ara Software Group, another Vela operating group focused on acquiring, managing and developing specialised vertical market software companies in the Environmental and Sustainability marketspace.
NEMS continues to operate independently from Stavanger, with the same long-term focus on environmental software, industry expertise and customer relationships.

Supporting National and Regulatory Reporting
NEMS has extensive experience developing and maintaining solutions and methodologies for regulatory environmental reporting.
In Norway, NEMS provides the technology behind Collabor8 Footprint, the national environmental reporting solution used by offshore operators. NEMS Accounter® can transfer validated environmental data to Collabor8 Footprint and to EEMS for regulatory reporting in the United Kingdom.
This experience gives NEMS a distinctive understanding of the complete reporting process—from operational source data and calculations to national submissions.
Long-Term Ownership and Independence
NEMS is part of Ara Software Group within Vela Software Group and Constellation Software Inc.
Constellation specialises in acquiring and permanently holding successful vertical market software businesses. This provides NEMS with long-term financial stability, access to international software expertise and the independence to continue developing our products, people and customer relationships.
